Unwanted Visitors by Harriette Sheffer Abels is a science

fiction children's adventure book that features the Emergency Ship M88 and it's crew coming into contact with a not so new group of lifeforms. 

I have to say that I love science and I love to dream so science fiction is my jam. This was a fun little book I would have loved to have had as a child. I understand that there are many more books about the M88 crew and if it were not for that fact that I have books piled everywhere in my home I would certainly go looking for them. 

Who should read this book? Geeks who love to dream.

Locomotive by Brian Floca

'Locomotive' by Brian Floca is a book about at train ride back in

the old west or American Civil War era. It gives you a slice of life from back when the steam engine ruled the world. This is a great bedtime story told without characters that is mostly informative. 

In addition to the story at the end of the book there is a large section that gives a good deal of railroad history. It talks about Abraham Lincoln and his Transcontinental Rail Road. It answered a few questions I had like 'what happened to the golden railroad spikes?'

Who should read this book: People who like trains.

'Cinders the Chicken Cinderella' by Jan Brett Book Review

'Cinders the Chicken Cinderella' by Jan Brett is the classic story of Cinderella only told with chickens in a little girl's dreams where her best friend chicken winds up being the number one of the new rooster. 

I can say this is a well drawn book but it adds nothing to the story of Cinderella and is wholly forgettable. 

This is not to say that there is anything wrong with this book, but the story is rehashed and rehashed until we all know it very well.

In addition, this book has large foldout pages that can get snagged and damaged.  This will impact the longevity of this book.

I think children will enjoy the pictures in this story, and it's a nice book to have, but otherwise just one of many in the world of children's books. 

Who should read this book? Parents who love children's books and take very good care of them.

Aladdin By William Glennon: Book Review

"Aladdin" adapted by William Glennon is a play that I was involved in back in high school. It was a fun little production that we cut up something fierce to get it on stage.

This adaptation is designed to appeal to young children and so it has little in the way of substance and more in the way of humor and jokes. The action is simple, the plot is wish fulfillment and the work is short and direct.  

Who should read this book? Theater Geeks looking to produce children's theater.

Dear Children's Books (Publisher),

What you have here is a children's picture book manuscript written in rhyme and teaching children the difference between pear the fruit and pair as in two things with some mention of to pare.

I yield to your better authority how it is all to be edited and produced. I have only the experience of reading to children as my guide in the area. I do know something of art work and printing so I can easily understand what limitations you set up. The poem is fifty-two lines but how many lines appear on one page is up to you.

I have been published three times in the past as a poet in periodicals. Once with my junior high school and twice in high school but have submitted nothing professionally.
