Screenplay into a Novel

Dear Screenwriter,

From you ad I can tell that you’re looking for someone to turn your screenplay into a novel. It just so happens that I’ve done that but never been published. This makes me a bad candidate for this job but do you have any better candidates? I can show you the script I started with and the novel I ended with and we can talk about publishers.

Truth is, I’m willing to work on speculation but I need to see what I’m working with and if you want to get the novel published fast there are ways that you can do that but none are ideal. Still, an accomplish novelist shouldn’t be willing to do the work on speculation.

Anyway, as far as the Sci-Fi elements I got the Bank of America award for physics in high school and hold a BA in Psychology so I’m something of a geek. I’ve had a few short films produced and written a few short stories in addition to my novel but nothing that would make me as an author you should pay attention to.

Bottom line, if what you need is someone to write you’re film into a novel I can do that and I can show you the proof. If what you need is someone who can help you market your screenplay then that’s just not me.

I grant that I probably shouldn’t be writing to you because of how bad a fit for this job I am, but the truth is that you miss every shot you don’t take.

Horror Script or Novel

Hay Boss,

You’re looking for a horror script or novel and I have a horror script that I have also written as a novel. I don’t know why I answer these ads to be honest. I never get a reply but here goes.

I wrote “Walker In the Trees” in college under the direction of a film teacher. Starts off looking like a cabin in the woods slasher film before flipping expectations and pitting the slashers against an unknown force in the woods. There are limited characters and locations as well as supernatural elements.

You’re going to need to pull some camera tricks to get this to work. Think of a young Professor X fighting off some devil worshiping killers to save is twenty something friends, and you’re on the right track.

I have a few other properties that may interest you. “House Broken” is a dark comedy that involves super hero elements. There is singing, dancing, and drugs. The whole thing could be produced as a stage performance or filmed in my house. It would be a reflection on modern life for sure.

“Levi” is another script that I have that may interest you, but I don’t know if it could be done with your budget. It involves immortality, catfish-men, and Russian experiments.

The last director I worked with produced a good number of my short films until he spend four grand to be in a film with a porn star instead of paying me. We never made a full length film together because he never had the money, or so he told me. Once I got a good idea of what he liked and what his budget and resources were I could write a good deal for him.

I could likely do the same for you. If I don’t have a project you’re interested in then send me your filmography, and I’ll write something you do like. It may not be ready in time for this project but it could be for your next. It wouldn’t run you anything and if you don’t like that one I’ll still have another script to show people.

My Dear Cousin - My Novel

My Dear Cousin,

In my previous letters I covered the falling out between my family, and I and my refusal to attend my sister’s wedding. I believe the next point to be noted is an incident between Uncle Allen and I.

 

For all my life I wanted to be a writer and, well, the major obstacle in that department happens to be nerve damage I received, most likely, at the hands of (Pickle) and (Pony Girl). They had a game when we were children where they would pull me off the couch and make my head hit the floor.

 

This happened over and over and over again until I started having headaches and such. Well, mom couldn’t afford a sitter and it wasn’t like my old man wanted to look after his children. This left me with difficulty reading and interpreting letters.

 

Around two thousand and nine I wrote a novel about a society fighting off an alien invasion on a world neither of them belonged to. Allen volunteered to read it for me and help with editing but, well, for one his feedback was full of insults, and for another he had trouble understanding that I have nerve damage.

 

Part of me wants to believe that old Allen was a fool, part of me thinks that he was intentionally sabotaging my writing so that I would need to spend the rest of my life dealing with my mentally ill brother. Allen said he had just been joking, but I don’t know. Insults tend to be malicious.

 

I guess it doesn’t matter. I didn’t get help with my novel, and I was plenty angry at Uncle Allen, but that’s water under the bridge now. Family was never of any use to me before, and it was still rather useless.

Master of Murder By Christopher Pike Book Review

 

Master of Murder By Christopher Pike is a novel about a high school

senior who is also and incognito best selling author. His father is out of the picture, but an abusive addict who could take his wealth, and his mother is drunk most of the time. He finds himself investigating a real life murder for the woman of his dreams who has her own plans. 

As a want-to-be author myself, this book is very appealing, but it is still a pulp novel. The writing is accessible and relatable, the characters are human, and the world is almost our own. 

If you are a reader or want-to-be author this is a great book for you. If neither of those things apply to you this book will leave you wanting it to be over so you can go watch another killer shark movie.

Who should read this book? People who like to read.

Letters to Agents

My Dear Friends at Management,

 I am a screenwriter, playwright, and novelist so I am pleased to find a company that would work with all three. I’ve been published in the ‘Pioneer Artistic Review’ twice. I have sold a script to Absurd TV and was then contracted and have completed rewriting a script purchased from another author for the same company.

I am currently looking to market a script called ‘Walker in the Trees’ which is something of a horror/thriller designed to be a lower budget theatrical release.  I have also written the novel to this film. ‘Walker in the Trees’ centers around Karl a man haunted by the ghost of his murdered sister.  In the film he has hunted down her killers and they become the primary victims of the story.  This film earned me an A+ in Screenwriting at Cal State University Fullerton.

I have two full length plays that have done well in cold reads, I am working on another novel, and have written another film in the romantic comedy range.  Writing is what I love and I’m not all that picky about what I’m writing.

Mr. (agent),

I am currently seeking to market a Novel and screenplay called ‘Walker in the Trees’. This is a thriller novel not unlike the work of Stephen King in its supernatural nature and would be marketed primarily to men between 18 and 35 but has elements of LGBT and stronger female characters.  The novels primary distinction is that through much of the second act it focuses on the villains as they are caught between their own illegal activities and an attacking force.  

As an author I have been published in the ‘Pioneer artistic Review’ and sold a script to Absurd TV. I was also contracted by Absurd TV to rewrite a short film written by another author. I wrote ‘Walker in the Trees’ because I was told as a film it would be easy to market by a college professor. I then rewrote it as a novel because copious sources have stated that a novel is far easier to market.

Robocop(Novel) By Ed Naha Review

'Robocop' by Ed Naha is the novelization of the 1987 film of the same name. I would speculate that it brings you closer to the world of the film's authors, Edward Neumeier and Michael Miner, giving a more complete world for the story to take place in.

The Moon colonies, and changes in technology are displayed and Robocop adopts a dog. 

Overall there is very little to this book but that doesn't make it bad. I found it entertaining for someone who wants more of the story of the lawman cyborg. 

This is a world extending further than just the battle worn streets of Detroit. It permits us to see the lost friends and hard times of the police officers that was just talked about in the film. You get a closer look at Robocop himself and the story that takes place in his mettle covered head.

Who should read this book? Those who love books and Robocop.

The Death of Gatsby

Ah, the spectrum of things we have all done in our lives thanks to our under par education. This is a song I wrote in my freshman year of high school. The date on the file was the 19^th of May in 1995. How true that is I can only speculate, it’s probably not that far off.

I had a group project based on the novel “The Great Gatsby” by F. Scott Fitzgerald and we each had to write a song. I do recall my English teacher commenting on how much he liked the work. Well, you can’t get the full version by reading it, but tell me what you think.
