My Heart and Blood (Bookworms What's Inside Me?) by Dana Meachen Rau is a book on human biology. 

I found this to be a very rudimentary examination of the circulatory system. It's mostly a 'this is what we call this' kind of a book. Given who it's written for that's not at all a bad thing. This book gives children a foundation to build their understanding of human biology on. I don't know how old I was when I found out that my heart pumped blood to the rest of my body, but I'm glad we are teaching this to children.

'The Great Dog Disaster' by Denise Pomeraning Book Review

 

'The Great Dog Disaster' by Denise Pomeraning is a book about a one Keegan who's dog has gotten out of the garage and he is getting the blame.

After Keegan's babysitter, who hates his dog, accuses him of letting him out the young boy is faced with the need to find out how his dog got out, clear his name, and stop his parents from sending his dog to the country. Keegan then seeks out help from other children and collects facts about what happened.  

This is a great book for teaching children not to take things at face value. Looking more deeply into facts and trying to learn the truth is a really good rule to follow in life.

The one thing I dislike about this book is the feeding of the dog chocolate chip cookies. That can be really bad for dogs.

Something Funny(Read With Dick and Jane)by Pearson Scott Foresman Book Review

 

Something Funny(Read With Dick and Jane)by Pearson Scott Foresman is a classic of the children's learning experience.

I have to admit the book is a lot more rudimentary than I would have expected it to be. There are so few words used to tell the stories that they almost relay solely on the images to give context. 

Again the reason behind this is that this book give the child a few words to focus on and learn so that they can build their vocabulary. That is why Dick and Jane is so useful in education. However, one book just isn't going to be enough and you kind of need a good amount of them to work.

'Snowman's Story' by Will Hillebrand Book Review

 

'Snowman's Story' by Will Hillebrand is a book without words perfect for the people who love to look at the pictures without reading. 

This is not the first book without words I've run into, but the idea has always been divided in my mind. On the one, hand this is a distinct idea and that is in and of itself good. On the other hand, the idea of books is reading so doesn't it defeat the purpose? 

 

This is a fun Christmas story about a living snow man that you can enjoy with your child. It is just for fun but then we need to just have fun every now and then. 

 

Who should read this book? People who don't want to read.

"Babymouse: Monster Mash" by Jennifer L. and Matthew Holm Book Review

 

"Babymouse: Monster Mash" by Jennifer L. and Matthew Holm is the 9th book in the Babymouse books and the story of her Halloween.

Babymouse is something of a Tomboy who like scary costumes and her mother gives her permission to have a Halloween party. This is a happy moment for Babymouse until the mean girls click in her school get there hands on it and try to make Babymouse more like them. 

This is a story about peer pressure and finding yourself. It is also a story about standing up to people who try and push you around. I have to say I like what this teaches children. 

In addition, it is a stoutly made book with a two color ink. This is a black and orange that fits well with the Halloween subject matter. This book is a fun read and really made my day.

Let's Inves-Tigger-ate! (Disney: My Friends, Tigger & Pooh)by Dalmatian Press

 

Let's Inves-Tigger-ate! (Disney: My Friends, Tigger & Pooh)by Dalmatian Press is an addition to the Hundred Acre Woods involving new characters and faces.

Christopher Robin is missing from this story as Tigger goes about investigating things at random. The overall idea is somewhat lacking in story and short with an overall feeling of not fitting with the original characters. 

This is a book meant to get kids reading and thinking and I just don't feel it does that well. 

Who should read this book? Kids with nothing else to read.

One Giant Leap by Mary Ann Fraser Book Review

 

One Giant Leap by Mary Ann Fraser is a look into the first moon landing.

I loved space when I was a kid, and I love space now. I think this is a wonderful little book for children to read and get a better understanding of history. 

The illustrations are rich and detailed and were this book not so old and beat up I would add it to my collection permanently. It really is a fine read.
