NewsFreed

6th September 2021

Hay (YouTuber),

A funny thing happened the other day and you popped into my head. It started with a cat crying. I thought it was one of mine and went to investigate only to find after some real dirty work that I was dealing with a kitten. This reminded me of the videos I made with kittens and that was back when you did the (YouTube Segment).

I have to admit if I had it to do over I would not have done those videos. I ran into too many internet stalkers that way, but one of the things I brought up back then was your (YouTube Program)  friends making a movie.

Yeah, I need to get that idea out of my head so I can move on to better things. Truth be told, I know you wouldn’t start a kicksstarter for it, but some of your friends may. It’s just an idea, and a lot of famous people do it now.

You can’t use the name
(YouTube Program) for copyright reasons but let’s say you make a comedy horror film about a defunct YouTube channel named NewsFeed, or NewsFreed, something like that. It’s not important. What is important is that everyone is getting back together for a reunion in the middle of nowhere for no good reason.

It would be fun, and I’m sure there would be public interest in the large number of folks who worked on the show. Anyway, (YouTube Mascot) could be News Fiend and in the end he, the puppet, could be the killer after being left in a box alone for so many years. It would be funny. You’d have a good time, and you may just forward this email to a few folks and see what they think.

Just a thought,

Two Horror Properties

18th August 2024

Dear Director,

In reading your ad for a horror film I can say I have two properties that may be of interest to you. To be fair, it’s hard for me to keep psychological elements out of my writing. My degree is in psychology.

The first script is “Walker in the Trees” which breaks down to a siege film, one location, but it does have a number of college age characters. In the first act we establish that the characters are going out to a cabin to party but there is a “grass man” in the woods. One character, who is just giving them a ride, is looking for the people who killed his sister. By the end of the first act he is left bleeding by the side of the road.

In the second act we see the killers have the party people captive and are about to start killing when the thing in the trees starts to pick them off. They can’t call for help because they would go to jail and they can leave because it’s out there.

Third act, we learn that the man looking for his sister’s killer is telepathic. We have hallucinations, ghosts, and a bigfoot like creature that can communicate with him. I’ve had people tell me that the script was very cool but hard to understand.

The second script is one that would need work as I wrote it for live production when suffering from sleep deprivation. I wrote “Levi” back in a college writing class and it’s hard to describe but it starts as a murder mystery and then evolves into a Sci Fi horror with science made monsters.

Most of the action takes place off camera but we would bring on camera everything that the budget will permit. It’s a grounded dark superhuman story that people will talk about.

I do have another script called “House Broken” but that is a dark comedy with singing, dancing and superheroes. This would all be one location and could be done under your budget, but I don’t think it’s a film you’d be looking for.

Finally, I have been kicking around a concept called “Empty, Hollow, Thud” which is inspired by a Psychological experiment I read about. This would simply involve placing a character in locations that change every time the three words are heard. Empty would place them in an empty lonely space. Hollow would place them in a confined space. Thud would give them some injury.

Each situation would get more perilous as the film went on, but this is just a concept and the idea would be to film this in locations we can find. It’s more of an art project kind of thing.

Best of luck in finding what you’re looking for,

Dark World

3th December 2011
Dear Cassi,

One of the largest parts of my young life was my brother’s insomnia. We would stay up all night, and he would tell stories of the ‘Dark World’ which was little more than a compilation of the TV shows he watched. Sunday morning cartoons came to life in his head and became mixed with horror films my father would show him.

Who shows Friday the 13th to a seven year old I have no idea, but old man Neal thought it was the right thing to do. I spent at least a decade of my life listing to every story of death, torture, and abuse that could come from the diseased mind of a pre to early teen horror film junky.

The worst of this was the lack of sleep that came along with these mental assaults. I would go to school with a head that felt like it was full of spiked led balls that I couldn’t hold up to save my life.

When I think about that it may have been the reason for my slow mental development. How can anyone grow up healthy when suffering from sleep deprivation? I can’t blame my brother for what he did back then, but I’m still angry that he refuses to take responsibility for things he did in his twenties.

The Dark World was the place where my earliest nightmares where born. It was a world no more or less obscene than our own but with all those horrific things lane out like puzzle pieces put together in a hellish mosaic.

You could say I have a dark mind, well, now you know why.

Stay safe, Cassi,

Richard Leland Neal
