Kamala Harris’ Debate

On the 8th of October I ran into a post on FaceBook by LATIMES.com about the vise presidential debate that read “Kamala Harris’ Debate was for every woman who’s been talked over by a man.” I honestly feel that Harris is a person like any other and that gender should have been left out of the debate. Think of it this way, it would be rude to go up to a woman firefighter and say “you’ve done well for a girl”. She has done well regardless of gender. I expressed my opinion and the following is a copy of that post

Richard Leland Neal: “Kamala Harris' debate was for every American, and every citizen of the free world.”

Barry Hebb: “Richard Leland Neal, hardly”

Richard Leland Neal: “Barry Hebb, Wipe the orange off your mouth when you say that!”

Barry Hebb: “Richard Leland Neal, resorting to hurling insults does not strengthen your case.”

Richard Leland Neal: “Barry Hebb, Not making a case to start with just makes you rude to start with. Do you have a point to make?”

Barry Hebb: “Richard Leland Neal, I already made it. Pence shut her down. That's why you directed your comments towards me. You have no good rebuttal.

Richard Leland Neal: “Barry Hebb: Permit me to express myself neatly, if you say “Trump is a good president,” and I say “Hardly” I am being rude and regardless of any other fact an insult is the correct social response. However, if I say “worst economy since the great depression, 200,000 Americans dead” I have then engaged you in a debate. It would be your opportunity to refute me.

“Now let us examine the Pence/Harris debate. As you put it “Pence shut Harris down”. This is objectively wrong; Pence interrupted Harris, because he could not win on talking points. In any college or high school debate class Pence would have failed because he refused to obey the rules. Now if you’re going to say ‘this isn’t a college class’ I would say ‘you’re right, this should be held to higher scrutiny’.

“To win a debate one must defeat an opponent’s argument. To defeat an opponent’s argument they must make that argument. You may be siding with Pence, because you agree with him but the truth is that he lost the debate.”

People Who Stink: Mike Jones

I had this exchange on FaceBook and thought it worth recording. I looked up 'Mike Jones' here and found that he only had two friends. If that doesn't set off warning bells I don't know what does.

In any case, this is an exchange regarding responsible shopping and the human cost of business.

Richard Leland Neal Walmart can say whatever it wants to. They can go eat Trump an die for all I care. I never shop at Walmart, and the only people who have any excuse to shop at a place that treats their workers that badly is a person who can't afford to shop anywhere else. Responsible Americans don't shop at Walmart!

Mike Jones you suggest people pay more for the exact same item? Its human nature to find a deal and spend less money than needed. Thats how Wal-Mart became so big by cutting costs. If a cashier accepts $8 an hour for 30 hours a week what business is it of mine? Do u inquire about the labor practices of every single business u patronize? I doubt it. Target is no different they just operate on a higher profit margin they dont pay $15 an hour. They just charge more for goods because it costs them more to do bnusiness due to inefficientcy.

Richard Leland Neal Mike Jones I see your talking out your rear there. Well, so do most conservatives. First off, Walmart items are often of lower quality so you are getting what you pay for. Second, I shop at Costco and they are known for treating their employees well. Everyone needs a job so Walmart employees do not 'accept' $8 an hour, they settle for low pay because they need the job. Maybe you can get away with those kinds of comments among the ignorant but I happen to be educated and I know better.

To No One I know of

I found this blurb on my hard drive and have to trace it back to 2007 because of the reference to a man named Gabe. Other than that I can tell you that I was having my most trouble with women at the time and did a few things I have trouble remembering.

When I put this down I was seeing dragons in the dust I was so exhausted. No idea what I was referring to, but I still thought it was funny. Sadly, there is no way to make out who it was written for.

“Oh, yeah, I don’t do those sorts of thinks, so I would have no idea about them. That’s what I normally ask Gabe about and get an answer that helps marginally.

“Yet I find the statement very telling of how we Americans can’t get with it when relationships are concerned. We tend to try and communicate in connotation rather then normal speech and the problem is no one knows what the heck is going on until it’s too late.

Drives me bonkers,

Richard Leland Neal”

The Road to Hell

Okay, this is a short one but I think it’s worth posting.

Believe it or not this is a response to a facebook status post. One of my college friends was telling the world at large that her life belonged to her.

If anyone that reads this has lived in a dysfunctional family then these words should ring true with you.

7th November 2011

I’ve always felt that it is one thing to offer advice, and another to keep offering advice that people don’t take.

The first thing is being a friend and the second is being a saboteur as you soon find yourself spending more energy arguing over advice than dealing with your problem.

In this way even those who honestly believe they are helping you are getting in the way.

This would be an example of the old adage “the road to hell is paved in good intentions.”
