Dear Film Maker,

From your ad I can see that you’re looking two make a horror movie and you’ve named two found footage supernatural films and the experimental film Skinamarink as your inspiration. I guess the link between them is that the audience and the people in the film don’t know what’s going on.

I have a few ideas in that area, nothing I’ve scripted, but the point of films like that are to use the space you have. The important thing would be to express what is it about these films that you want to have in your work.

Skinamarink is basically an acid trip that involves events rather than plot points. Strange things happen and those things need to hold the audience so that they keep watching. The film didn’t get a good deal of love from audiences so it kind of failed at that, but I guess it stood out which was enough.

Anyway, I have a degree in Psychology and some film training. I also work with a Canon 90D and 60D for which I have a number of lenses. I have a few things we can film this on. I even think I have some old trick filters I could dig out, but I don’t know if they would be of any help.

I’ve written a few things. What’s been produced is mostly shorts on YouTube. You can look me up on IMDB for that under Richard Leland Neal.

Yellowstone - Midway Geyser Basin

I took a slight detour off my route to visit Gibbon Falls on the Gibbon River. Discovered in 1872 this trapezoidal waterfall had a gradual descent with a drop of 84ft (25m).

Wanting to explore more, I meandered into Firehole Canyon alongside Firehole River. Here I enjoyed the 40ft (12m) drop Firehole Falls and a little further down, I took the opportunity to go for a swim in one of the only two areas in Yellowstone that are sanctioned swimming holes.

Refreshed, I trekked on until I reached Firehole River Bridge and crossed it into Midway Geyser Basin. Once called Hell’s Half Acre, the basin has two of the largest features: Grand Prismatic Spring and Excelsior Geyser.

Visually stunning with its multitude of vibrant colours, Grand Prismatic is the largest spring in the USA and the third largest spring in the world. It has a diameter of 370ft (113m) and a depth of 160ft (50m). The spring discharges 2,100 litres of water per minute that reaches temperatures of 160°F (70°C). The prismatic colours closely resemble those seen in a rainbow: red, orange, yellow, green and blue.

For a bit more visual stimuli there is the little Turquoise Pool with its deep ocean blue colour beautifully reflecting the scattering of white clouds beneath the blue sky. Named by the Hayden Expedition in 1878 the pool’s temperature is between 142-160°F (61-71°C).

Lastly, I stopped by the Excelsior Geyser, a dormant geyser crater which today is a hot spring but back in the late 1800s, it would erupt to heights of about 300ft (91m) and just as wide. It used to erupt every 2 mins to 5 hours and lasted anywhere from 1-3.5 minutes. Dormant most of the 20th century, the Excelsior suddenly erupted in 1985 for two days straight, as high as 80ft (24m) and between 2004-2006 it did once more with eruptions up to 10ft (3m). For now, it's back to being dormant.

An incredible location that is as visually appealing on the ground as it is fascinating to see via satellite imaging.

Construction Site in Hollywood

Gentle Persons,

Your ad states that you’re looking for security for a construction site in Hollywood. I’m a guard with more than twenty years experience who has reliable transportation. I’ve worked a few construction sites in the past and know the ins and outs of that kind of work.

I have just taken a part time job which is on call and few hours a week so I need do no more than call them and inform them of a change in my availability. I have no hours scheduled past the twenty eighth, but I would like to give them as much notice as possible.

The jobs they have me on I’m sitting in my car using a portable toilet which is much like construction. Normally on a construction site I have a folding table and chair that I use. I tend to work the night shift and it’s best to be out in the elements to keep eyes and ears on the site.

Past that, well, I’m a man with bills to pay and I’d never take a day off until I get them paid if I could. You want to hire a man with bills to pay, because such a man comes to work every day no matter what.

I can tell you that during the pandemic I came down with a case of pneumonia. I didn’t miss a day of work. I already had to have a mask on and taking time off would mean losing overtime so I worked six days with the illness taking my patrols and filling out my reports.

Escape Room Cover Letter

Dear Escape Room,

I am a security guard. I do have a theater back ground and I could show you a few short films I’ve been in but as a guard I still fit your requirements. It is common for me to work at the entrance, check people in, and direct them where to go. A guard should always be professional, polite, and clear spoken.

I have spent many years working in a hotel where I often greeted guests and had to direct them to their rooms. I was often called to address the angry or disgruntled customers with a professional tone and manner. I’ve had people tell me they were pained to leave having so enjoyed my company.

In addition, I have spent six years working with the homeless. They can be an odd lot. I’ve talked people down from suicide. I’ve dealt with some real stressful situations and came out in good form. I should be able to handle anything that comes my way in an escape room.

I have a part time night job that I should be starting next week. This would be my day job. For the most part, all security guards are used to working weekends and holidays so I’ll be used to the hours you need me for.
