One Giant Leap by Mary Ann Fraser Book Review

One Giant Leap by Mary Ann Fraser is a look into the first moon landing.

I loved space when I was a kid, and I love space now. I think this is a wonderful little book for children to read and get a better understanding of history.

The illustrations are rich and detailed and were this book not so old and beat up I would add it to my collection permanently. It really is a fine read.

Who should read this book? Everyone.

The Marching Band (Scooby Doo Phonics)by Frances Ann Ladd

The Marching Band (Scooby Doo Phonics)by Frances Ann Ladd is a book that should get kids reading.

This is not a Mystery Inc. book in that the only characters are shaggy ans Scooby. If what you wanted was to see the boys run in fear and take down a fake monster that is missing from this volume. This is a fine book for reading but feels out of place for our much loved characters.

Who should read this book? Children who struggle with reading.

1997 The Torch

This is the 1997 Pioneer Torch. That is the year book for my high school. Reflecting back on high school I was too depressed to get much done but some of these faces are a welcome site.

It is strange looking back at those faces and seeing what I would now think of as children. I was a very different person back in high school, but I was still an oddity.

There was a time that I thought about high school a good deal, but now I have so much more going on in my life that it's a faded memory.

I've read here and their that the signatures in this book may make it somewhat valuable. This would be greatly increased if I became famous or note worthy.  However, not it is an artifact on a cluttered shelf.

Who should read this book? My descendants.

'Freight Trains' by Peter Brady Book Review

'Freight Trains' by Peter Brady is a very technical look at freight moving train cars.

The subject matter here is a little dry given that it's pictures of train cars and what kind of goods would be carried in these cars. One of those things about teaching very young children is you want to give them just enough information to stick in their heads. This book does that very well. It gives the child just enough so that they have a working understanding to trains and what they do.

Exposing children to a wide range of topics gives them a broad foundation on which to build future knowledge.

Who should read this book? Young children.

"Cool Careers for Girls with Animals" by Ceel Pasternak and Linda Thornburg Book Review

"Cool Careers for Girls with Animals"  by Ceel Pasternak and Linda Thornburg is a book containing biographers of women who work with animals.

After reading this book I can say that there is no reason any of these jobs have to be preformed by a woman, and the idea of saying any one job has a gender is old fashioned to me. Then I live in California which is a very progressive state. There are a good number of places in the English speaking world where a book like this is needed and proper. We should teach everyone that they can find a job with meaning so I can't complain about this book.

Who should read this book? Women trying to find themselves.

'Bats and Their Homes' by Deborah Chase Gibson Book Review

'Bats and Their Homes' by Deborah Chase Gibson is a book about the furry flying night nymphs that grace our world.

This is very much a book for those who no very little about flying mammals. I've read books on bats and watched videos about them many times so this book had little information that was new to me. Then this book wasn't written for grown men. It was written for children who need to know more about bats and we should all know at least this much about bats.

All and all, this was an informative book. I'd say this is a fine read.

Flat Stanley by Jeff Brown

'Flat Stanley' by Jeff Brown is a fun little book about a boy who gets
flattened by a bulletin board and lives a cartoon like life after that. He goes through the mail, gets flown like a kite, and becomes a hero.

One way of looking at this books is that it is something of a comparison to an injury like a broken arm. You have a cast and that makes you different.  The thing to do is make the best of it however you can and that is what Stanley does.

Children will never have so whimsical an experience as but they will feel the truth in this book. They will understand the sibling rivalry and the humanity of this book.
